SECRETARY ACCOUNTANT CONSULTANCY POSITION

TERMS OF REFERENCE

INTRODUCTION

AKB CENTRE LIMITED is a private investment company whose vision is a wealthy life for all. The Centre’s mission is to contribute to solving many of the current challenges facing humanity through sustainable income generating investments. The Centre invests in income generating projects that promote youth employment and bring about easy availability of and accessibility to essential goods and services. The Centre’s investments are currently focused on real estate, transport, and hospitality, etc.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are searching for a motivated Secretary Accountant who is an excellent multitasker with exceptional communication and time management skills. The position’s holder will be responsible of data entry, processing, and recording transactions, updating the ledger, assisting with audits or fact-checking, and preparing budgets, reports and ensure that the Centre is tax compliant. You should be thorough, accurate, and honest with good bookkeeping skills. To be a successful Secretary Accountant, you should understand basic Accounting and Secretary principles and be proficiency with computers and software, such as MS Excel or QuickBooks. You should be trustworthy, efficient, and organized. The role is a 6 months Nairobi based consultancy with at least three working days per week (renewable upon excellent performance and funds availability). The role reports to the AKB CENTRE Director.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Secretary Accountant will perform the following among others:

  • Performing basic office tasks, such as filing, data entry, answering phones, processing the mail, etc.
  • Handling communications with clients, partners and vendors via phone, email, and in-person.
  • Processing transactions, issuing checks, and updating ledgers, budgets, etc.
  • Preparing financial reports.
  • Ensuring the Centre is tax compliant.
  • Assisting with audits, fact checks, and resolving discrepancies.
  • Provide assistance in the operational management of the Centre’s projects.
  • undertake preparation of all projects related documents such as periodical reports, meeting minutes, project proposals, etc.
  • Assist with project communication/visibility activities, including publications, website updating, social media presence, etc.
  • Be responsible for financial planning, accounting, and reporting, control of expenditures, accounts reconciliation, maintaining an inventory register, and general administration.
  • Liaise with the Centre’s partners such as lawyers, investors, clients, etc. and facilitate/promote smooth relationships
  • In collaboration with the Centre’s legal partner, ensure that the Centre’s operations are carried out in accordance with the laws of the land.
  • Represent AKB CENTRE in relevant meetings as delegated by the AKB CENTRE leadership
  • Attend to any other AKB CENTRE related tasks as needed and/or instructed by the Centre’s leadership

Requirements:

  • University degree in related field with accounting and clerical work experience.
  • Proficiency with computers and bookkeeping software, strong typing skills.
  • Exceptional time management and verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Familiarity with basic accounting and clerical principles.
  • Professional manner and a strong ethical code.
  • Ability to multitask and remain motivated and positive.
  • Commitment to working efficiently and accurately.
